Wu-Tang Meets the Indie Culture Vol. 2: Enter the Dub

Back in October 18, 2005 Wu-Tang released a collab album entitled "Wu-Tang Meets the Indie Culture." While not hugely successful as far as I could tell, (wiki says 59,133 units were moved) within my circles the album was a huge success. Featuring underground phenoms MF Doom, Aesop Rock, Ras Kass, and C-rays walz just to name a few, the production was unmistakably Wu and the lyrics were on point. The single "Biochemical Equation" featuring RZA and MF Doom was even played on the campus radio after the albums release (much to my amusement one late Friday night.)

Flying under my radar, a follow up album was released November 10, 2009. Tapping into the very different but just as devote fan base of dub step, "Wu-Tang Meets the Indie Culture Vol. 2: Enter the Dub" fuses the grimiest group of hip-hop with the equally distorted and dirty sounds of underground dub music's finest producers. While I recognize very few of the names, I've given it a good spin (or three) and I gotta say, after overcoming my initial reaction of "who left their hipster in my hip-hop?" the album knocks.

While dub isn't my preferred cup of tea, and not offering any knew lyrical performances aside from a few borrowed Three-6 and Pimp C bars from "Icewater: Polluted Water" the album is definitely worth a breeze through and even a purchase (6.99 MP3 download on Amazon) if you even moderately enjoy dub step.

B.o.B. in the G.A.M.E.

B.o.B is heat. Another ATLien, every release he's had has been on point like index fingahs. Working with the likes of DJ Green Lantern as well as Mick Boogie on his mixtapes: "B.o.B Gangsta Grillz," "Hello My Name Is B.o.b," "B.o.b Vs Bobby Ray," as well as his "12th Dimension" EP, liquid magma is what they ooze.

For those of us who cringe when we turn on the radio, this should be no surprise, but if you been sleeping, it's time to get familiar. His album The Great Adventures of Bobby Ray will be in stores April 27th and is must cop for this cat.

In the mean time, take a B.o.B crash course and chiggity check his mixtape "Best of, So Far:B.o.B" for just that, the best of his ish so far. Honestly tho, take the time an check the rhyme, this kid's been working hard and it shows in the ish he's giving away FOR FREE.

A Positive Kause in a Much Damaged Society

Aaaaah the 90's. I feel like the true gift 90's was the slang. Dudes nowadays just don't got the gift of gab it seems. We got "hyphy" and "hella" I suppose, ("gooey" was the newest term I've heard, i.e getting drunk) but other than that what's new? Maybe I'm just not paying attention, but it seems like the youths got a case of tongue tiedius.

It's to early for this sh*t...

Cot daaaamn, wake up with a pounding headache, late for class. Bust ass to get there an find its been canceled! Comin' back, I find my corner is victim to a fender bender, as a lil car somehow got wedged up on the median. A neighbor tells me its the second accident on the corner this morning!

But you know what? I can't even be bothered by all that. Cause my homie Sam came through like a true blue an left Guilty Simpson's new album OJ Simpson on my doorstep!

Uploading as I type this, I hear Madlib takes the game to the next level with production and Guilty in my book can do no wrong so "stoked" would be an understatement. Now if I could just do something about this headache...

Medicinal Fried Chicken

Last night Comedy Central aired the newest episode of South Park. Now in its 14th season, I constantly hear people ragging on South Park for being too preachy, not as original as it used to be, or down right ridiculous to the point where one cant relate. This episode, bar a few minor scenes that struck me as very new grounds for SP, was one of the best I've seen since season 11.

With improved animation, the loss of many of the original voice actors to the series, and having to deal with the speed at which comedy travels these days, SP has seemed (from the general consensus of those who watch it) to have lost it's old spark. Season 13 most say was one of the least impressive to date, and the season finale left many disappointed. However, last night's episode left me very hopeful.

Touching on the idiocy of some of the new marijuana laws, the very real and dangerous hard drug problems, the popes recent escapades, and even managing to add a hilarious nuance of Tony Montana; the new episode I feel is a needed fresh of breath air to a staling series.

I just hope Matt and Trey can keep the momentum they've created up, and roll with the new direction they seem to be headed in to keep the laughs comin'
