Go chigggity check it right meaw The song utilizes a frantic, grungy dance-pop sound, but since I am unfamiliar with Tamar-Kali I don't know if this is business as usual or a break from the norm. I can however attest to this being newer ground for Jean as she "machine gun raps" at a quickend pace for her part. A bouncy, fun listen.

Moving right along, after a two year hiatus, one of my favorite animated shows, The Boondocks is offically coming back on May 2nd. The edgy, politically and racially charged show takes hilarious and thought provoking pokes at pop-culture, trends, the state of the nation and race. A new feature I've been thinking of adding has been a "Freaky Friday" addition to the blog. Every Friday, I hope to bless readers with the bizzare, strange, and down right gruesome. To start things off I deceided to go with a low key commerical for Johnny Cupcakes I happened across. Enjoy.

Music Monday: 4/19 Edition

The day before and the feeling in the air is, well... dopey. The most interesting part of this 4/20 for me has been the lead up. As a now widely "recognized" "holiday," everyone from The Hundreds to Nike is getting on a seasonal drop, the latter coming with a silly sick set of kicks that is the first to have me amped on a Nike quickstrike ina minute.

The Skunk Dunk Hi features contrasting rough green suede with a purple swoosh and orange stitching, the kicker, a stash pocket in the tongue. Understated and clean, the shoes actually look money in person and while probably not cutting it for more formal occasions, would compliment most street duds nicely.




As stated earlier, The Hundreds is also dropping a 4/20 commemorative in the form of what looks to be a hemp fitted. Seen as the intro image to their blog the image started really hazey and got clearer and clearer as 4/20 approached. Now clearly visible, the hat is done in a off-white hemp looking fabric and features an all green adam bomb front and center.

Boundless and Snoop even came together for the festivities and are releasing a "Snoop Dogg x Boundless Malice Tour Tee." From Hypebeast: "Limited to only 300 units, the Boundless x Snoop Dogg shirt will be released exclusively at Boundless NY shops and online, with the remaining portion being up for grabs at Snoop Dogg’s NY shows on 4/19 & 4/20. Playing off Boundless’ popular Sound Clash t-shirt, the collaboration pitches Snoop’s very own strain against NY’s finest."

Heads been getting hungry. Anyway, now for the main event:
South Park - 200th episode


Two hundred episodes deep, South Park has officially been around for a minute. With high expectations for los dos cientos, I must say ultimately, I was let down.

First the pros: I saw a huge increase in production value, the score, shots fields of depth, detail, cell shading and 3D graphics are all (relatively) new grounds for SP and I applaud them for their growth in that respect. Character development has been strong through out the seasons and I'm glad they've stayed so true, never have I questioned any of the boys personality's or dialogue and every episode they seem to get more "real." I have yet to question "would the character X really say that or was it just written in for a laugh?"


That being said, a lot of the charm is lost from the low-fi days of cut-n-paste SP. While it's unrealistic to expect anything not to undergo changes and growth, I feel SP is drifting from its simplicity which made it so good.

The Cons:
As Stan states in the episodes beginning after Kyle and Cartman exchange (exact) words from South Parks days of yore: "You're just re-using old material!" and that is exactly what the episode proceeds to do. Unfortunately, as an SP devotee seeing all the throw back references and nostalgic characters (Best Super Friends, Hennifer Lopez, gingers, the "who's Cartmans father?" shtick) really just drove home the fact that South Park isn't hitting as hard as it used to. A lot of the humor seems to be purposefully intended for "shock" value but we're bored... nothing is sacred and you've shown us that South Park! Buddah doing lines of coke at the Super Best Friends table? C'mon really? They seem to be grasping at straws just to rattle audiences ever-diminishing sense of what is "off limits" on tv.

Uniting all the celebrities SP has made fun of, the episode breaks down the "voyeurs wall" so to speak and and makes the characters allude to South Park as what it actually is, a television show. For some reason this really rubbed me the wrong way, I can't put my finger on why but it stole from the magic of South Park for some reason.

With laugh's few and far between for me, I worry that like Cartman from "How to Eat with Your Butt" I may have already seen the funniest thing ever, and will never laugh again.

The Best Part is Always the Gift Shop...

Self credited as "the world's first street art disaster movie," Banksy's and french film-maker Thierry Guetta's "documentary" was premiered last night in L.A. You'll remember awhile back I posted the link to the first trailer when it was released and aside from the above five minute extended trailer I really hadn't heard anything about it.

As I haven't seen it yet and only have other blogs to oogle over at the moment, I will refrain from attempting to dissect the reviews I've read (which I now wish I hadn't, movies are always far better or worse when you haven't seen the trailer, it let's you have no expectations) and wait until I pirate it or view it by some other means as it shows no where in Oregon. The closest showing, in Seattle at The Harvard on April 23rd, I probably won't be attending as the war on my addiction to garments is raging and steadily draining my funds.

On that note, I just picked up some rad rain gear from Patagonia to keep the spring showers off my radar:

Oh, and as it is Wednesday, a new South Park will be airing tonight! Expect a review tomorrow! (my bust on no review for the Facebook episode, it just didn't move me as much as the Medicinal Fried Chicken episode.)
