ID

After a long hiatus from the blogosphere I decided on Saturday the 10th to try to get the 'ol blog back up and running. A combination of stars aligning, the perfect mix of people, and just the right amount of beer luck lead me to the realization that the blog, while dogged, still holds relevance in these times of instant regurgitation (tumblr) and immediate vocalization (twitter @alecremington ). The 10th found me at the Identity Festival at the incredible Washington venue, The Gorge. Accompanied by my roommate and some of my Tactics cohorts. The sights, and above all the sounds, inspired me to take action and reclaim my long neglected blog. While I may not be in full affect with the writing aspect of it, I promise for at least the first few days to deliver more than solid visuals encapsulating the majesty that was my summer. Starting with Identity, 2011. Swag tent 2.0 (more on that later) and my roommate Adam.
You WISH your coworkers were as cool as mine.
HUGE shout-out to Skullcandy for setting Tactics up with tickets! Check out there supported DJ page for some serious talent in EDM (mos def check out Risk One)
LA Riots
Nero... or at least half of Nero.
Indian's love Nero.
So do stormtroopers.
Hard venue to top. Especially with Benson performing magic in your peripherals.
After an incredible set from Rusko, one which was far to much fun for documentation, the lights started to get pretty... Now without a drummer, I was actually very impressed with Pretty Lights for maintaining both energy and presence as they now lack the "live instrument" appeal which drew me to them initially when I first saw them in Eugene.
The headliner of the night, the pièce de résistance, was Kaskade. Having only heard his Dance.Love album I only had a vague idea of his sound, and knew only a select few stand out tunes that I hoped to hear. It only took one track for me to realize that Kaskade really was an act best enjoyed live, as his show was waaay more energetic than a spinning of his album on any given drive or workout would lead you to believe.

Moon Walker

(Via Benzi): "Benzi & Diplo Present.. Mansions on the Moon ‘Paradise Falls’, is now available for free download!! The Echo Park trio formed a little over a year ago and they have since collaborated with N*E*R*D, Diplo, Benzi, Willy Joy, and Xaphoon Jones (Chiddy Bang). The fusion of Mansions’ electro indie pop into a trip-hop flavored mixtape mixed exclusively by Benzi & Diplo shows this band has huge things on the horizon. Keep an eye out for their debut original album and tour dates in the early part of 2011. Below is a link to the mixtape along with a hype video from N*E*R*D!"

The Anthology of Rap

via Adamfbradely:

"From the school yards and block parties of the South Bronx to the tops of the Billboard charts, rap has emerged as one of the most influential cultural forces of our time. In The Anthology of Rap, editors Adam Bradley and Andrew DuBois demonstrate that rap is also a wide-reaching and vital poetic tradition born of beats and rhymes.

This pioneering anthology brings together more than three hundred lyrics written over thirty years, from the "old school" to the "golden age" to the present day. Rather than aim for encyclopedic coverage, an impossible task, editors Adam Bradley and Andrew DuBois render through examples the richness and diversity of rap's poetic tradition. They feature both classic lyrics that helped define the genre, including Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five's "The Message" and Eric B. & Rakim's "Microphone Fiend," as well as lesser-known gems like Blackalicious's "Alphabet Aerobics" and Jean Grae's "Hater's Anthem."

Both a fan's guide and a resource for the uninitiated, The Anthology of Rap showcases the inventiveness and vitality of rap's lyrical art. The volume also features an overview of rap poetics and the forces that shaped each period in rap's historical development, as well as a foreword by Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and afterword by Common. Enter the Anthology to experience the full range of rap's artistry and discover a rich poetic tradition hiding in plain sight."

A def must read for me, don't hold your breath for a review tho.
