Fresh n pipein hot!

Song of the day today is brought to you by none other than the incrediable Jean Greaeezi and Tamar-Kali. Go chigggity check it right meaw The song utilizes a frantic, grungy dance-pop sound, but since I am unfamiliar with Tamar-Kali I don't know if this is business as usual or a break from the norm. I can however attest to this being newer ground for Jean as she "machine gun raps" at a quickend pace for her part. A bouncy, fun listen.

Moving right along, after a two year hiatus, one of my favorite animated shows, The Boondocks is offically coming back on May 2nd. The edgy, politically and racially charged show takes hilarious and thought provoking pokes at pop-culture, trends, the state of the nation and race. McGruder the creator provides commentary on the Season 3 trailer which can be viewed meaw

A new feature I've been thinking of adding has been a "Freaky Friday" addition to the blog. Every Friday, I hope to bless readers with the bizzare, strange, and down right gruesome. To start things off I deceided to go with a low key commerical for Johnny Cupcakes I happened across. Enjoy.

Music Monday: 4/19 Edition

The day before and the feeling in the air is, well... dopey. The most interesting part of this 4/20 for me has been the lead up. As a now widely "recognized" "holiday," everyone from The Hundreds to Nike is getting on a seasonal drop, the latter coming with a silly sick set of kicks that is the first to have me amped on a Nike quickstrike ina minute.

The Skunk Dunk Hi features contrasting rough green suede with a purple swoosh and orange stitching, the kicker, a stash pocket in the tongue. Understated and clean, the shoes actually look money in person and while probably not cutting it for more formal occasions, would compliment most street duds nicely.

As stated earlier, The Hundreds is also dropping a 4/20 commemorative in the form of what looks to be a hemp fitted. Seen as the intro image to their blog the image started really hazey and got clearer and clearer as 4/20 approached. Now clearly visible, the hat is done in a off-white hemp looking fabric and features an all green adam bomb front and center.

Boundless and Snoop even came together for the festivities and are releasing a "Snoop Dogg x Boundless Malice Tour Tee." From Hypebeast: "Limited to only 300 units, the Boundless x Snoop Dogg shirt will be released exclusively at Boundless NY shops and online, with the remaining portion being up for grabs at Snoop Dogg’s NY shows on 4/19 & 4/20. Playing off Boundless’ popular Sound Clash t-shirt, the collaboration pitches Snoop’s very own strain against NY’s finest."

Also dropping on 4/20 is an unusually "high" (GET IT?GET IT?) amount of albums from a not-so-surprising line up. Compiled by celebstoner.com here are their top ten picks for this coming Tuesday:

1. Cypress Hill - Rise Up
2. Kottonmouth Kings - Long Live the Kings
3. Willie Nelson - Country Music
4. Devin the Dude - Suite #420
5. Xavier Rudd - Koomyun Sun
6. Roky Erickson - True Love Cast Out All Evil
7. Merle Haggard - I Am What I Am
8. Apples in Stereo - Traveling in Space and Time
9. Ozomatli - Fire Away
10. Sevendust - Cool Day Memory

And before I forget, here are some tunes to take it eaaaaasy to:

Cypress Hill - Hits From The Bong

Doobie Ashtray By Devin The Dude

Snoop Dogg - It Blows My Mind

Michael Franti and Spearhead - Light Up Your Lighter

Major Lazer - Mary Jane

One of my personal favorites: T-Pain F. Styles P - I'm High

CunninLynguists - Never Come Down (The Brownie Song)

Outkast - Crumblin' Erb

Brewer & Shipley - One Toke Over The Line

Because it just wouldn't be right without some Bob: Bob Marley - Buffalo soldier

Walking has become such a chore

Or at least that's what Honda apparently would like people to believe. For those who've looked at the segway and thought "that looks fun but all that standing? uh uh" the U3-X here delivers omni directional seated propulsion. This hand held motorized unicycle makes breathing look like heavy labor, as it allows the user to effortlessly glide in any desired direction.

De La Soul - Copa (Cabanga)

Digable Planets - Last Of The Spiddyocks

Raekwon- Catalina (ft.Lyfe Jennings) Prod. by Dr. Dre

Heads been getting hungry. Anyway, now for the main event:
South Park - 200th episode

Two hundred episodes deep, South Park has officially been around for a minute. With high expectations for los dos cientos, I must say ultimately, I was let down.

First the pros: I saw a huge increase in production value, the score, shots fields of depth, detail, cell shading and 3D graphics are all (relatively) new grounds for SP and I applaud them for their growth in that respect. Character development has been strong through out the seasons and I'm glad they've stayed so true, never have I questioned any of the boys personality's or dialogue and every episode they seem to get more "real." I have yet to question "would the character X really say that or was it just written in for a laugh?"

That being said, a lot of the charm is lost from the low-fi days of cut-n-paste SP. While it's unrealistic to expect anything not to undergo changes and growth, I feel SP is drifting from its simplicity which made it so good.

The Cons:
As Stan states in the episodes beginning after Kyle and Cartman exchange (exact) words from South Parks days of yore: "You're just re-using old material!" and that is exactly what the episode proceeds to do. Unfortunately, as an SP devotee seeing all the throw back references and nostalgic characters (Best Super Friends, Hennifer Lopez, gingers, the "who's Cartmans father?" shtick) really just drove home the fact that South Park isn't hitting as hard as it used to. A lot of the humor seems to be purposefully intended for "shock" value but we're bored... nothing is sacred and you've shown us that South Park! Buddah doing lines of coke at the Super Best Friends table? C'mon really? They seem to be grasping at straws just to rattle audiences ever-diminishing sense of what is "off limits" on tv.

Uniting all the celebrities SP has made fun of, the episode breaks down the "voyeurs wall" so to speak and and makes the characters allude to South Park as what it actually is, a television show. For some reason this really rubbed me the wrong way, I can't put my finger on why but it stole from the magic of South Park for some reason.

With laugh's few and far between for me, I worry that like Cartman from "How to Eat with Your Butt" I may have already seen the funniest thing ever, and will never laugh again.

Highlights:
Muhammed in the Uhaul "Welcome"

“Dammit Marsh, why couldn’t you’ve just kept your stupid ugly kid in line?” – Fed
“Hey, don’t start blaming me for his looks!” – Randy Marsh

“Jimmy Buffett, how would you like it if nobody could call your music drunken frat boy monkey garbage?” – Tom Cruise

The Best Part is Always the Gift Shop...

Self credited as "the world's first street art disaster movie," Banksy's and french film-maker Thierry Guetta's "documentary" was premiered last night in L.A. You'll remember awhile back I posted the link to the first trailer when it was released and aside from the above five minute extended trailer I really hadn't heard anything about it.

As I haven't seen it yet and only have other blogs to oogle over at the moment, I will refrain from attempting to dissect the reviews I've read (which I now wish I hadn't, movies are always far better or worse when you haven't seen the trailer, it let's you have no expectations) and wait until I pirate it or view it by some other means as it shows no where in Oregon. The closest showing, in Seattle at The Harvard on April 23rd, I probably won't be attending as the war on my addiction to garments is raging and steadily draining my funds.

On that note, I just picked up some rad rain gear from Patagonia to keep the spring showers off my radar:
Shadow Rain Jacket-this baby is packable, breathable, and sports Patty's new H2no technology which keeps you bone dry ina down pour.

Patagonia Lightweight Endurance Ankle Socks (in violet) - cause I run through socks like nobody's business, these suckers keep the feet comfy in any weather.

Short-Sleeved El Ray Shirt (in white) - For the coming heat, something understated and classy.

Oh, and as it is Wednesday, a new South Park will be airing tonight! Expect a review tomorrow! (my bust on no review for the Facebook episode, it just didn't move me as much as the Medicinal Fried Chicken episode.)

Tyyyga Styyyle

Drawing inspiration from the most OG of cross training kicks, Bagua comes witha Kung-Fu/Tai-Chi inspired slip given a modern twist. Worn since the 19th century, these shoes were worn in the daily life of master martial artists as well as millions of Chinese people today.

Teaming the East coast with the Far East, Bagua has a collab set to drop this month with none other than NY's Wu Tang Clan. Using a yin-yang inspired design with wu's signature killah bees colorway and being limited to only 360 pairs (I'm hoping that's 360 for US an 360 for UK) these are a must-cop for me.

Europe Launch: April 15th and USA Launch April 30th.

Wu-Tang Meets the Indie Culture Vol. 2: Enter the Dub

Back in October 18, 2005 Wu-Tang released a collab album entitled "Wu-Tang Meets the Indie Culture." While not hugely successful as far as I could tell, (wiki says 59,133 units were moved) within my circles the album was a huge success. Featuring underground phenoms MF Doom, Aesop Rock, Ras Kass, and C-rays walz just to name a few, the production was unmistakably Wu and the lyrics were on point. The single "Biochemical Equation" featuring RZA and MF Doom was even played on the campus radio after the albums release (much to my amusement one late Friday night.)

Flying under my radar, a follow up album was released November 10, 2009. Tapping into the very different but just as devote fan base of dub step, "Wu-Tang Meets the Indie Culture Vol. 2: Enter the Dub" fuses the grimiest group of hip-hop with the equally distorted and dirty sounds of underground dub music's finest producers. While I recognize very few of the names, I've given it a good spin (or three) and I gotta say, after overcoming my initial reaction of "who left their hipster in my hip-hop?" the album knocks.

While dub isn't my preferred cup of tea, and not offering any knew lyrical performances aside from a few borrowed Three-6 and Pimp C bars from "Icewater: Polluted Water" the album is definitely worth a breeze through and even a purchase (6.99 MP3 download on Amazon) if you even moderately enjoy dub step.

Stand out tracks include:
-Keep Hustlin (Trillbass Remix)
-Knuckle Up (Matt U Remix)
-Street Corners (Scuba Scythe Remix)

B.o.B. in the G.A.M.E.

B.o.B is heat. Another ATLien, every release he's had has been on point like index fingahs. Working with the likes of DJ Green Lantern as well as Mick Boogie on his mixtapes: "B.o.B Gangsta Grillz," "Hello My Name Is B.o.b," "B.o.b Vs Bobby Ray," as well as his "12th Dimension" EP, liquid magma is what they ooze.

For those of us who cringe when we turn on the radio, this should be no surprise, but if you been sleeping, it's time to get familiar. His album The Great Adventures of Bobby Ray will be in stores April 27th and is must cop for this cat.

In the mean time, take a B.o.B crash course and chiggity check his mixtape "Best of, So Far:B.o.B" for just that, the best of his ish so far. Honestly tho, take the time an check the rhyme, this kid's been working hard and it shows in the ish he's giving away FOR FREE.

A Positive Kause in a Much Damaged Society

Aaaaah the 90's. I feel like the true gift 90's was the slang. Dudes nowadays just don't got the gift of gab it seems. We got "hyphy" and "hella" I suppose, ("gooey" was the newest term I've heard, i.e getting drunk) but other than that what's new? Maybe I'm just not paying attention, but it seems like the youths got a case of tongue tiedius.

Listen to more (MF) Doom kids. Brush up on your Kane. Do ya homework

It's to early for this sh*t...

Cot daaaamn, wake up with a pounding headache, late for class. Bust ass to get there an find its been canceled! Comin' back, I find my corner is victim to a fender bender, as a lil car somehow got wedged up on the median. A neighbor tells me its the second accident on the corner this morning!

But you know what? I can't even be bothered by all that. Cause my homie Sam came through like a true blue an left Guilty Simpson's new album OJ Simpson on my doorstep!

Uploading as I type this, I hear Madlib takes the game to the next level with production and Guilty in my book can do no wrong so "stoked" would be an understatement. Now if I could just do something about this headache...

Medicinal Fried Chicken

Last night Comedy Central aired the newest episode of South Park. Now in its 14th season, I constantly hear people ragging on South Park for being too preachy, not as original as it used to be, or down right ridiculous to the point where one cant relate. This episode, bar a few minor scenes that struck me as very new grounds for SP, was one of the best I've seen since season 11.

With improved animation, the loss of many of the original voice actors to the series, and having to deal with the speed at which comedy travels these days, SP has seemed (from the general consensus of those who watch it) to have lost it's old spark. Season 13 most say was one of the least impressive to date, and the season finale left many disappointed. However, last night's episode left me very hopeful.

Touching on the idiocy of some of the new marijuana laws, the very real and dangerous hard drug problems, the popes recent escapades, and even managing to add a hilarious nuance of Tony Montana; the new episode I feel is a needed fresh of breath air to a staling series.

I just hope Matt and Trey can keep the momentum they've created up, and roll with the new direction they seem to be headed in to keep the laughs comin'
